(Probably) The Best Chicken Wings

The Chicken Wing Lifestyle

It was difficult to go from obsessed to just living the chicken wing lifestyle. I have chicken wing shirts, socks, and most importantly, chicken wings on the brain. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies, I do have some struggles.

My son hates the smell of chicken wings. Although this can be a benefit if I need some alone time (I just cook or reheat wings and he runs away, literally holding his nose). I had him smell every ingredient of my dry rub to find if maybe there is an ingredient that he does not like. We couldn’t figure it out. One day, we put my rub on just a regular chicken breast we grilled and tried to fake him out. That boy has a good nose, wouldn’t go near it. I was very proud of his senses but annoyed I couldn’t trick him. I love my son and I am holding out hope that one day, like with steak, that he will come around. It would be better if it was an all family affair.

My wife eats meat, but she don’t like the bone. So, I figured out how to make a true boneless wing. No chicken tenders or nuggets here, just a boneless wing. Jessi does not eat a lot of wings, but it is super gratifying when she does because she truly enjoys my wings, but not many others she has had in life. That is rewarding.

Sometimes I am a little too hard on myself. I rate my wings, each batch. My father-in-law said he has never had a bad one. I can assure you, when you have had the perfect wing, it’s like a drug. You can start chasing that flavor and texture. That’s why I’m sharing my knowledge, I figured out how to make a very consistent, perfect wing.

Throughout my journey of being obese and fixing that, I ate a lot of wings. I owe some credit for my success to these wings. They keep me focused and on track. They are very symbolic for me in my life. I traded in breaded, fried, sauced, dipped in rach wings for a dry rub smoked wing and my taste buds are forever grateful.

Wing life for me is just making better choices. One wing cook = 3 better choices (my goal was 1 better choice per day with food when I started my journey).

  1. Dry Rubbed
  2. Smoked
  3. Dipped in hot sauce (I love you Frank’s Red Hot)

One of my co-workers said, “Hey, you really love chicken wings.” He is right. I do. I would prefer a perfect smoked chicken wing to a USDA Prime 2.5” thick bone in ribeye cooked perfectly. That’s wing life. That’s the chicken wing lifestyle.

❤️ I love you, chicken wings. Thank you for helping change my life. One day, maybe, hopefully, perhaps, my son will love you too!
